The 1605 Daisen–Inn Buddhist garden and temple in Kyoto, has been an influencer of the artist's work since early 2010. In particular the “Wall of Doubt”, which was a link over the pebble garden (The Great Ocean) from one pavilion to another. It was a roofed bridge with a wall, a seat and a window. This work explores how we are not living in harmony with the environment, and the consequences through climate change: rising ocean temperatures, decreasing numbers of plankton, and increasing number of floods, cyclones and tsunami.

This title refers to Paradise Lost, mankind losing their connection to the environment. The work is influenced by the minimalism of the Zen Buddhist gardens in Kyoto, which I visited early in 2010.

This work was developed after the floods on the eastern coast of Australia in 2010, in particular the flooding of Brisbane. This increase in rain is a result of climate change as predicted in the book In the Balance by Al Gore.

The group are headstones to the environment. On the back of each of these is stencilled a word: care, respect, gratitude, awareness, appreciation. The front of Markers resembles landscapes; blurred, quivering, changing. The pieces reflect the different aspects of the earth from the mountains to the sea.

This work engages with the idea of water as an essential element that has not only been commodified but also compromised by the pressures of human production and climate change. Configured like a large drop of water, “blue gold” refers to the status of water as a privately owned commodity, with the rights to it sold off to the world market.

The dining room is the place where I live - the informal study, the place to entertain with food, wine and laughter. Usually the table is covered with books and papers. The afternoon sun sneaks through the louvres and casts shadows on the floor. My mother’s carver is pulled aside for memories. As a child, surrounded by the legs of chairs, I am concealed but able to see all. It is the safety of the nest, the cubby house.
